The Media Molecule team at PlayStation Studios is working on a new project that is more of a game than a creative tool like Dreams.
A recent interview with Mark Healey, former creative director of Media Molecule, revealed some information about the new project of the British development team at PlayStation Studios, which seems to be more of a traditional game rather than a creative tool like Dreams.
The direction was not obvious at all, considering the unique experiences Media Molecule has worked on and the dedication put into Dreams, which could have led to a sort of sequel or continuation on that path, but it seems once again originality has prevailed and the team is working on something completely different.
In fact, it was already revealed last month that Media Molecule is working on a completely new game, at least based on job listings, and this seems to have been confirmed by this new interview with Healey, although of course, the former founder could not delve too much into the matter.
Returning to Media Molecule’s Origins?
Interviewed by MinnMax, Healey mentioned that the studio «is in good hands» after his departure a year ago, and at this point, he is not exactly sure where the development of the new project stands, but he did contribute to getting it started before leaving the team.
For this reason, he is definitely able to know what is brewing at Media Molecule, confirming that it is a new intellectual property, and can be considered «more of a game than a creative tool», thus returning to gameplay-focused productions.
On the other hand, it is a team that before Dreams showed a willingness to tackle different atmospheres and situations, even with very innovative elements: from Media Molecule, we have seen the arrival of LittleBigPlanet and Tearaway previously, both very focused on creative elements as well.
The former, in particular, already contained an extensive level editor, serving as a sort of prologue to what would happen in Dreams, but still essentially remaining a game.
