Microsoft released an important update for Windows 11 to the Insider Preview Canary and Dev channels this week with build 26052. This is the first official build based on Windows 11 version 24H2, the first major update scheduled for release in the second half of 2024.
The build brings a series of new features, such as support for the sudo command, however, several users are experiencing serious issues during installation.
This is not surprising, as all preview builds (especially those in the Dev and Canary channels) are intended to catch any issues before the public release.

In this case, many users have reported errors during installation with the code 0XC1900101 and with GSOD (Green Screen of Death) screens displaying the message «SYSTEM_PTE_MISUSE.» One of the error messages also states «The installation failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase with an error during SYSPREP_SPECIALIZE operation.»
In essence, the installation process is failing for reasons yet to be clarified, due to an issue that seems to be affecting many Insiders judging by the numerous reports and user comments on various channels. The problem is most likely related to a bug in Sysprep, essential for allowing the initial configuration after installation, but there are currently no official communications from Microsoft regarding the resolution of the bug.
